several cases reported in the literature1,3,5--7 (in addition to our case) where 18FDG-PET (alone or combined with CT) was of value for the localization of occult ECS due to carcinoid tumor. Moreover, various studies have shown its value in detecting neuroendocrine tumors in general (secreting and non-secreting),8,9 mainly atypical ones (showing greater hypermetabolism).10 The development of new tracers for PET (Ga68-DOTApeptides such as DOTATOC, DOTANOC, and DOTATATE) that specifically bind to somatostatin receptors in neuroendocrine tumors (type 2, type 5 and, to a lesser extent, type 3) will represent a significant change in the monitoring of these tumors.11 The reason for this is that because of their greater spatial resolution (when PET and CT are combined), 5. Octreotide for the Management of Chylothorax in newborns, case report
Chylothorax is the most common cause of pleural effusion in neonates. It is usually idiopathic. Neonatal chylothorax successfully respond to octreotide treatment and can reduce the duration of hospitalization. A number of therapeutic interventions have been used to reduce chyle production and promote resolution of a chylothorax. Initial management typically includes restriction or temporary ces...
متن کاملSpecific use of CSII during enteral nocturnal nutrition in a child with type 1 diabetes, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and Down syndrome.
The management of insulin therapy in diabetic patients who have comorbidities that involve nutritional aspects, is a major challenge for diabetes care teams. In diabetic patients with compromised nutritional status, artificial nutrition, both enteral or parenteral, may help in the treatment of chronic and acute diseases, leading to better and faster recover of the health status but, if not adeq...
متن کاملRefeeding syndrome with enteral nutrition in children: a case report, literature review and clinical guidelines.
Refeeding syndrome is a potentially fatal complication of the nutritional management of severely malnourished patients. The syndrome almost always develops during the early stages of refeeding. It can be associated with a severe derangement in electrolyte and fluid balance, and result in significant morbidity and mortality. It is most often reported in adults receiving total parenteral nutritio...

Introduction: Although perforation of the esophagus, in the anterior cervical spine fixation, is well established, cases with delayed onset, especially cases that present pseudodiverticulum, are not common. In addition, management of the perforation in this situation is debated. Case Report: Delayed esophageal pseudodiverticulum was managed in two patients with a history of anterior spine fi...

متن کاملThe Role of Percutaneous Endoscopic Transgastric Jejunostomy in the Management of Enteral Tube Feeding
Feeding-related adverse events after percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) such as aspiration pneumonia can impede the use of PEG. Percutaneous endoscopic transgastric jejunostomy (PEG-J) using large-bore jejunal tubes with gastric decompression function may improve outcomes by circumventing gastric passage during enteral nutrition and improving drainage of excessive gastric secretions. Thi...
